A place for your picture

Choose the picture.
Check the details.

A little preparation helps you find a format, frame and position that suit your room.

Formats are not interchangeable

FormatWhat it meansWhat to check
Paper print or posterAn image printed on a paper-based surface.Paper dimensions, border, finish and whether a frame is included.
CanvasAn image on a canvas surface; it may be supplied stretched or unstretched.Depth, edge treatment, support and supplied hanging hardware.
Framed artworkA product supplied with a frame, if the listing specifies it.Outer dimensions, glazing, mount, total weight and fitting instructions.

This explains general formats. Product listings determine which formats our collection actually offers.

Three different sizes

  1. Image size: the visible picture area.
  2. Paper or canvas size: the overall printed surface, including any border.
  3. Outer frame size: the complete object that occupies wall space.

A frame labelled for a particular print size may have larger outer dimensions. A mount or mat can reduce the visible opening. Check the actual measurements before ordering.

A display checklist

  • Think about where you’ll view the picture and how it relates to furniture.
  • Measure the full arrangement, including gaps and frame borders.
  • Check the total weight and wall surface before selecting suitable fixings.
  • Follow the frame and hardware manufacturers’ instructions; check for concealed services before drilling.
  • Consider direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Display needs depend on the actual print, materials and finish.

Look after the artwork you have

Follow the maker’s care guidance. Keep cleaning liquids away from the artwork itself, and avoid rubbing a printed surface unless the maker recommends it. Historic, valuable or fragile pieces may need specialist conservation advice.

Colour and screens

Screen settings and lighting affect how images look. The physical result can differ from a screen preview. Read the listing’s material and finish information rather than treating our illustrations or planner as an exact colour proof.

Will every canvas come ready to hang?

No. Check whether it is stretched, framed or supplied with hardware. Product photos alone may not establish what is included.

Can I assume a frame is included in a room mock-up?

No. Room scenes can illustrate styling. The individual product description should state whether a frame is included.

What gap should I leave between pictures?

There is no universal gap. Try a consistent spacing that works with your frame size, furniture and room. Use full-size paper templates and the planner to compare arrangements.
